A short story so far...

I was born in 1977. Like many of my peers my first interest in artmaking was inspired by comic books. After several years of showing interest in only this I graduated high school. After 2 years of being rather useless I was hit with the ultimatum of "go to college or you are cut off". So I went. I was accepted to VCU where I am slowly but surely pursuing a BFA in painting and print making. For the most part this has proven to be a pointless excercise in spending money and I have learned more outside of school or just being around other young artists than I have learned in the context of a structured class.

Is there a point?

Probably. I don't believe in "artist statements" or some long winded mumbo jumbo about what my art is and what it is supposed to accomplish. Rather I make art because I enjoy it.. I believe that we cannot help but internalize and express the way we react to our environment and experiences but I do not attempt to force a specific message, meaning, or purpose. Each work is treated the same. Sometimes a particular idea will take shape. Sometimes it wont. Ultimately how the viewer reacts to art can only be so affected by a manifesto or statement. We all come from a unique string of events and we all see the world differently. Take what you can. Enjoy as much as possible.

Thanks.
